Abstract

The general objective of this research was to describe onomatopoeia in the development of phonological awareness. The method used in this study was based on a quantitative approach, using a documentary-bibliographic typology, to establish an analysis of the object of study with the purpose of describing the investigated topic. In the research, documentary review was used as a technique to collect important data to help frame the facts. The material addressed consisted of graduate theses, scientific research and refereed works. It is concluded that onomatopoeia is a phonetic resource that allows the imitation of sound, thus developing in children the ability to recognize and use sound in spoken language, through books, stories, images, drawings, speech, among others. Hence the importance that teachers contribute to the promotion and use of this resource, to ensure meaningful learning in children.
